Fashion Fix: Prom Fashion

I have a monthly segment on our local FOX 8 (WGHP) MorningNews Show called, “Fashion Fix”! It’s where I go on during the 9:30 AM block, and talk about Fashion and Beauty trends, Red Carpet, Must Haves, etc.  I absolutely love every segment, andworking with various boutiques/stores in the area.  Fashion Fix is a live shot, and sometimes the strangest things can happen! Let’s take our Prom Fashion segment.  You would think by looking at the video that everything was perfect.  Not quite.

Ten minutes before it was time to go live, one of my three models had an unexpected emergency. I remember standing there thinking to myself, “what am I going to do”? Out of the four years that I have been doing segments, this has NEVER happened.  The owner of the boutique was standing there, cute, yet makeup less in her sweats and hoodie, and fabulous sneakers.  Julie (the owner) is about 4’11, and was only there to bring the prom gowns and to watch us model some of her best prom selections.  I looked at Julie and the bodiless Sherri Hill dress, and said, “Julie, you’re going to have to wear that dress!” Her immediate response was, “No Way!” But at this point, we had no choice.  After some persuasion, Julie was a great sport by grabbing her makeup bag, making a dash into the dressing room, getting in the swan-like dress and ready for the cameras. BUT, we still had a problem.

It isn’t uncommon for the models to bring an assortment of shoes.  It’s better to have options than none at all.  As they [models]selected which shoe works best, Julie only options were her sneakers.  Models are tall, and they typically wear a size nine shoe.  That wasn't an option for our petite newbie…she’s a size 6! Producers are ready and at this point, we have no choice, and Julie has to go on…barefooted! Yep, no shoes atall.  Since the cameramen aren't usually trend savvy, I had to make it known that her feet are not a part of the look.  We’re basically in a mess, so show the top half.

As the segment begins, one by one each girl models the gowns from Julie’s store, “The Destination at Swish,” and now it’s time for her to come out.  I stared at the monitor while describing her look! I crossed my legs hoping that the cameraman remembered our directions, Julie’s feet is not a part of the look.  Thankfully they remembered and the viewing area only saw what we wanted, a beautiful Julie in a gorgeous Sherri Hill dress!

All gowns can be purchased at The Destination at Swish 1603 - B Battleground Ave  Greensboro, NC 27408
