For months, we have seen celebrities show up “dripping in
gold.” This expression isn’t
reflective of their lifestyle – that would be more like “dripping in diamonds”
– but literally the material of their garment selections. We call it lame’!
Lame’ originated from France and is defined as a fabric of silk, cotton, or wool interwoven with threads of metallic. The striking texture has complimented jackets, leggings, blouses, and the ever-so-popular evening gown. Academy Award winner for the Iron Lady, Meryl Streep, wore a draped gold lame’ gown by Lanvin, as well as Jessica Alba attending The Met Ball in a Michael Kors grecian style lame' dress, sent fashionistas buzzing their praises!

But it’s not just about the gown. Once upon a time, long before the Kimye (Kim Kardashian + Kanye West) fairytale, West was spotted around time with then girlfriend and an unfamiliar face - but later made her claim to fame, thanks to Yeezy - Amber Rose. Ms. Rose made wearing leggings outside of the gym HOT, influencing the retail and designer world to follow suit.
American Apparel came out without a collection of shiny leggings that was a must-have on anyone’s style list, including a gold lame' pair.

Pairing lame’ with other striking hues may be a bit alarming. It’s important that you allow the material to be the standout, all by its lonesome. Bringing in another bold color may cause an outfit to have a competition within itself. That’s never a good thing. My suggestion: stick with basics, such as black, white or tan, like Blake Lively did at a Sprinkle's Cupcake event!

Lame' has also shown up in shoes, handbags, and even in nail polish. In 2010, CHANEL Cosmetics came out with a gold lame' nail polish that was an immediate sensation. As fast as it hit shelves, it was gone in seconds!
